2012 Bands
FRIDAY NIGHT
Gaucho, a gypsy jazz sextet, was formed in 2002. The lineup consists of Dave Ricketts & Michael Groh on guitars, Ari Munkres on standup bass, Rob Reich on accordion, Ralph Carney on horns, and Beth Goodfellow on drums & percussion.
Gaucho bases much of its repertoire in the music of Django Reinhart and the gypsy jazz of 1930′s Europe, it also finds inspiration in the rhythmic drive and collective improvisation of New Orleans swing music and the “gut bucket†sound. Gaucho is a first-rate ensemble, playing the music it loves with boundless energy, passion, and humor.
SATURDAY NIGHT
Camp Swing is thrilled to have The Cosmo Alley Cats with VERY special guest vocalist POPS WALSH for our Saturday night band.
The Cosmo Alleycats are a 5-piece swing jazz and retro R&B band based in San Francisco, where they perform weekly at Le Colonial in Union Square and regularly at other Bay Area venues. We love their diverse repertoire which is particuarly well-suited for ALL NIGHT dancing! This is logical because two of their members are long time, committed swing dancers. Many of you will recognize Steve Height on bass and Noam Eisen on piano. Pete Cornell is one of the Bay Area’s most visible sax players – you can catch him almost any night of the week performing with the Bay Area’s best swing and Latin jazz bands. Mike Burns keeps the rhythm shuffling on the drums.
We are especially delighted to welcome our dear friend and long time Camp Swing performer Pops Walsh back to Camp Swing. Pops delighted us for years at Camp Swing when he was the Stompy Jones vocalist and we are honored that he has agreed to come out of “retirement” and share his gift with us. You do not want to miss this very special event.
